Interview to Cecilia Masoni - Sic58 Squadra Corse: from races to fashion school
When we speak about motorsport we never mention the place of women in that world. They also have the passion for this sport and we must not undervalued them. Many of them accomplished great results in the past like Mary McGee in the 60s, will accomplish in the future or are currently accomplishing like Cecila Masoni racing with Sic58 Squadra Corse. This young pilot who is going to celebrate her 18th on 21st April was the protagonist of the reality show from MTV Italia "Motorhome un pilota in famiglia" talking about the world of CIV. This year, Cecilia will race for the new team created by Paolo Simoncelli "Sic58 Squadra Corse".
Before starting the championship, Cecilia Masoni lent herself to an interview.
1. You have been racing since 10 years. How did your passion start?
Yes, I have been racing since 2005. This passion started with Chinese pocket bikes because the price was reasonable and my parents bought me one.
2. This year, you will race with the team Sic58 Squadra Corse. How was your first metting with Paolo Simoncelli?
Our first meeting with Paolo Simoncelli took place some months ago for a lunch. To me, he immediately seemed a familiar person and I felt comfortable speaking with him.
3. In this men atmoshpere, it is not easy to make itself a place. How do you live that? How do you feel with mechanics and your colleagues pilots?
To me in the paddocks they are all my friends but on track I know nobody. With mechanics, I always had good relations and I try to pass on my feelings about the bike. I think that my colleagues pilots respect me at 100% because we grew up together.
4. We saw you as protagonist of the TV-Show on MTV “Motorhome – piloti di famiglia”. How did you live this experience? How did you manage the fact cameras where always with you even during hard moments when someone wants to stay alone?
The experience with MTV was wonderful. Having cameras always filming you is not easy but then you learn to manage with it. It was a little bit embarrassing at school and of course it was not easy when during the races everything went wrong and you wished to stay alone.
5. What would you like to improve this season compared to the last one?
Certainly I would try to get less angry.
6. Are you superstitious? Do you have some rituals before a race?
Yes I am a little bit. On track, I never wear violet clothes.
7. What is your strengthen?
I am a person who never gives up!
8. What is your goal this season?
My goal for this season is to enter in the points in every race. But I also understand that I race with 30/35 pilots who have as main goal to win and also to be in front of me.
9. How is your feeling with the new bike?
Very good! I had first test on March 13rd. I have a tendinitis to the wrist so I couldn't make a lot of laps. But the bike is ok.
10. In addition to be a good pilot, you also study to high school with fashion designer as subject. Did you ever made the design of your suit or helmet?
For now, I have drawn some helmets. For the rest, we will see in the future!
Thank you Cecy for your availability and good luck for this new season!
We haven't finished to hear about women in motorsport.
