Valencia 2013: Marc Marquez writes MotoGP story

The Baby Champion was proclaimed in Valencia the World Champion 2013 in MotoGP category. Let’s go back in time to know a little bit more about this genius.

Marc was born in 1993 in Cervera (Spain). The passion for bikes were probably written in his DNA as he had his first bike when he was 4, a present from his parents.

He started to ride in 2001 and won the Catalan title this same year. Marc continued his experience with bikes until 2004 where he met Emilio Alzamora who became his manager. He had good results as a 125cc rookie and at 15, he started to ride in CEV with a KTM 125 FRR where he had his first victory this same year.

In 2008 he made his entrance in 125cc World championship as a rookie for KTM Repsol. He started to be impressive also in that category by being in top 10 in Montmelo and also by getting on the podium in United England (8th race). In 2009, he was official pilot in KTM and made 2 pole positions and his second podium in 125cc. He finished 8th in the world championship.

In 2010 he became World Champion in 125cc with 10 victories and 12 poles despite the fact that he had several accidents during the season. With this result, he became the 2nd youngest pilot who won the championship in this category, after Loris Capirossi.

He starts riding in Moto2 the following year with the team Monlau Competición and had his first victory in Le Mans only after 4 races in that category. Unfortunately he had an accident in Malaysia because of bad weather and was declared unfit to race for some races and competed 15 races. On that 15 races, he had 7 victories and 11 podiums.

But everybody remembers about Australia 2012… During qualifications he is penalized because he hit another pilot during the deceleration turn. Marc was obliged to start the race in 38th position, the last one. But Marc made a legendary ascent! And from the 38th position he finished on the podium just 6 seconds behind the podium.

The leap was in 2013 where Marc was official rider of Honda Repsol Team. And you all know the rest of the story.

Marc he’s starting to write the Story of MotoGP. He continues with a brilliant season and Marc is proclaimed World Champion 2013 in MotoGP category.

He reaches a lot of records: it is his first season in that category and Marc is already the youngest World Champion (20 years old). He outstrips the record of Freddie Spencer who was proclaimed in 1983 World Champion at 21 years old.
