A sponsor for Luigi Morciano

The world of MotoGP is not as nice as we may think. Behind this great mechanical performance, which gives the shivers every time, there is also a part of « dark » that we’ll tell you throught the story of Luigi Morciano Pilot Moto3 category, in the Team Italia in 2011.

Before advancing in the world of motorcycling, this young prodigy, born in Rome in 1994, has faced a great long and challenging kind of journey. In addition to being a great promise, he is a person with a big heart, very helpful, sincere and with great humility.

Luigi Morciano take the road on two wheels when he was very young, with the mini bike, and quickly distinguished itself from the others. In 2008, he was the youngest rider of the Italian Championship with a 7th place overall and 4th in the Under-18. He also participated in some races in Spain CEV and C.M.V. and thanks to the excellent results, he distinguished himself in the CIV and was selected to become a part of Team Aprilia Junior GP 2009 and then participating in the CIV.

In 2010, the Italian Motorcycle Federation draw up a multiannual program for the most promising Italian drivers and created the « Team Italia ». Gigio, as he’s called, is selected to be part of and participates in the World Championship in 2011 in the category 125GP. He closes the 2011 125GP World Championship with 23 points, in 20th place overall.

Especially it is also to mention the race in Valencia, where the bike was not even one of the best, but managed to get into the top 10 with a big ninth place. A result for the first year in MotoGP altogether encouraging and exuding guts and tenacity that distinguish it.

The Italian Motorcycle Federation put Luigi in the project Ioda, with the « Ioda Team Italia », where there also was others pilots as Romano Fenati and Alessandro Tonucci, for the 2012 season. But this project entirely optimistic, that attempts to proceed with the good intention of becoming competitive and at the level of the other bikes. But it was only a « big hole in the water which has been a brake for the talent of Luigi. To understand better what happened, we interviewed Luigi, just out of the gym where he trains every day.

  • Hello Gigio , could you please explain to what the Ioda project? The Ioda project, undertaken in early 2011, was seen as a plan to win. In fact, it was an idea developed by Giampiero Sacchi, who was looking for, with this design, to do something with the team as manufactures’ momentum. The FMI (Italian Motorcycling Federation) had also believed in and supported this project Then unfortunately, the bikes have proved much less in comparison to the others, it was too early to bet on those motorcycles. They were not going well and they were not yet up to the world. In fact, they no longer do them currently. I unfortunately, (between the 3 riders), was the only one left with the bike and I did my best and all I could give. We were at 17 races, and I was done only 14, because I had an accident in Aragon that forced me to not compete for the next 3 races. And on 14, we had already used 13 engines. So it was a very difficult year. Then they changed the bike to the other, and they started to get better. For example, in winter testing, with the new bike, Fenati did third then second and first. I know I could do well, I was going for the win, but unfortunately the bike « followed me ». And then after a year, I find myself here waiting for a motorcycle for the new season.

  • What has been done so far to find a sponsor? An account on twitter was created by a big fan, Martina, and there are many who tweet # unamotopermorciano3. This account has been created 4 months ago and already has more than 1,000 followers. In addition to twitter, they moved in various directions through the web of course, as MOTOSPRINT magazines, flyers at the Motor Show of Bologna, they have spoken to the radio present at EICMA in Milan and at MotorBike Expo in Verona, sent e-mail to big brands. I would like to thank my family because they always gives me advice, my father, I also thank Martina who took to heart the account on twitter, I can not disappoint her. I also thank my friends and everyone who has has helped me. Unfortunately, I am where I arrived, with the results, with merit, with the commitment and professionalism. I haven’t bought the bike and I will not buy it now.

To the sponsors: you should focus on me because I train and do the best everytime. I always look for perfection in everything, even if it does not exist.
